Chopper from Paul Jr. Designs to be on display, raffled

Starting Monday, parts, accessories, repair and good old-fashioned camaraderie for motorcycle owners and enthusiasts will be available at Levi Herroon and Craig Gill’s new business, Short Stop Motorcycle Parts and Accessories.

The new shop, in Belding’s Covered Mall, officially opens at 9 a.m. on Monday. A grand opening celebration will be held Monday and Tuesday.

Herroon and Gill, founders of Belding’s motorcycle club, The Chosen Ones, are also hosting a Bike Night from 6 to 9 p.m., both Monday and Tuesday evenings. Starting July 12, Bike Night will be held each Thursday at the same time.

Craig Gill, at left, and Levi Herroon, owners of the new Short Stop Motorcycle Parts & Accessories in Belding, will open at 9 a.m. Monday. The duo will also host Bike Night both Monday and Tuesday, from 6 to 9 p.m. Bike Night will be held each Thursday evening, starting at 6 p.m.

Raffle tickets will be on sale for a March of Dimes chopper that was custom-made by Paul Jr. Designs, a company made famous by the popular television show “American Choppers.” Tickets are $20 each. The drawing will be held in November, according to Gill.

Gill said he is looking forward to serving the local west region and knows there will be plenty of interest in the new business, which caters to motorcycles, all-terrain vehicles and snowmobiles. He said he and Herroon are building the business to be a one-stop-shop.

“We are establishing ourselves as the place to come for apparel and parts,” Gill said. “We have parts and accessories for all makes and models.

“I think even with a rough economy, there’s still a lot of people into motorcycles, ATVs and snowmobiles,” Gill added, “so what we offer is still in high demand.”

Repair is another service Short Stop will provide. Jim Stump of Gowen is the repair manager.

Gill and Herroon have been operating Short Stop online for the past three years but, according to Gill, when metric cruiser motorcycle corporations like Honda, Kawaski and Suzuki started requiring physical locations to sell their parts and accessories, the duo decided to “open up shop.”

For Herroon, having an actual shop is a natural procession, and, with Bike Night, will give his club and local “choppers” a place to gather and build camaraderie.

“My dad was big into motorcycles so I’ve always was into them,” Herroon said. “There’s nothing that beats feeling the air in your face and in your hair with no restrictions.”

Both Gill and Herroon own Harley Davison Electra Glide motorcycles, with Gill owing a 2000 model and Herroon a 2005 model.
“Around here, you see a big variety of different bikes,” Herroon said. “There are a lot of cruiser bikes, though. They are great for comfort and the ability to ride miles and miles without taking a toll on your backside.”

Short Stop Motorcycle Parts & Accessories, at 240 Covered Village Mall, is open from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday through Friday, and from 9 a.m. to noon on Saturdays.
