GREENVILLE — A Greenville man was arrested at the scene of an accident after officers discovered he had been drinking and driving.

The Greenville Department of Public Safety responded to a single-vehicle accident at 3:10 a.m., Sunday, by Industrial Park Drive and Van Deinse Street in Greenville.

According to a press release, officers found a 2003 Volkswagen Passat, driven by 26-year-old Joshua Peterman, had entered the intersection at a fast rate of speed while not stopping at a stop sign.

The vehicle left the roadway, struck a high-voltage electrical tower and landed on its roof in the yard of a nearby home.

Peterman and his passenger were able to get free from the Passat and were standing outside of the car when officers arrived.

The investigation revealed Peterman had been drinking and was arrested at the scene.

The passenger was treated for lacerations and transported to Spectrum Health United Hospital in Greenville.

Peterman was uninjured and transported to the Montcalm County Jail where he was charged with operating a motor vehicle while under the influence of alcohol.
