ROCKFORD — A Belding man was arrested this week after allegedly traveling to Wisconsin with the purpose of having sex with a 13-year-old girl.
The Michigan State Police (MSP) Internet Crimes Against Children (ICAC) Task Force/Digital Evidence Unit was contacted by investigators from the Janesville, Wis., Police Department for assistance with an investigation, after they assumed the online identity of a 13-year-old female.
Wisconsin authorities advised that Jerry Osmolinski, 64, had discussed having a sexual relationship and exchanged illegal images with investigators over several weeks — all the time assuming he was talking with a child.
Osmolinski used Yahoo Messenger to communicate online, with the screen name of “OSMOJJO.” Any juveniles who have had online contact with Osmolinski are asked to contact law enforcement.
Osmolinski planned a trip to Wisconsin to meet and have sex with the fictional juvenile and was subsequently arrested Monday in Janesville, as he pulled in front of a fictitious address provided by detectives. He was lodged at the Rock County Jail in Wisconsin. He was arraigned today in Wisconsin on the following charges:
• Use of a computer to facilitate a child sex crime
• Exposing a child to harmful material or harmful descriptions or narrations
• Sexual exploitation of a child
Following his arrest, troopers served a search warrant on Osmolinski’s residence in Belding where additional evidence was collected. Additional criminal charges in Michigan are pending.
ICAC Task Force investigators were assisted by investigators from the ICE Homeland Security Investigations and detectives from the MSP Lakeview Post, Ionia Detachment.
