Howard City man dead after being hit by a car, one in custody

HOWARD CITY — Scott Michael Gregory, a 25-year-old Howard City man, died at the scene after being struck by a vehicle early this morning.

Montcalm County Sheriff’s deputies responded to a vehicle vs. pedestrian accident at 2:28 a.m. on West Edgerton Street in Howard City.

A 24-year-old Howard City man told deputies he saw the body a few blocks away from his home and proceeded home to advise his father to call 911.

When emergency responders arrived at the scene, it was evident that Gregory was struck by a vehicle and was dead at the scene.

Upon further investigation, deputies discovered evidence that may link the 24-year-old’s vehicle to being involved in the crash.

He has not been charged with the death, but the 24-year-old was arrested at the scene for operating while intoxicated.

Crime scene technicians will be conducting analysis of the vehicle to determine if it was involved in the crash. Deputies were assisted at the scene by the Howard City Police Department and Montcalm County EMS.

The crash remains under investigation.
