The Montcalm Township Fire Department will have some minor changes coming its way. During the regular scheduled Montcalm Township meeting on Wednesday, the board approved new equipment and personnel changes to the fire department. The board approved a Ventis MX4 Carbon Monoxide detector that detects up to four gases.

A 7-week-old puppy is dead but the homeowners are safe after fire broke out in a house on the east side of Half Mile Lake. Five fire departments battled the fire on Jewett Street, which runs off Half Mile Road west of Morgan Mills Avenue in Spencer Township.

Kay Akkerhuis enjoyed seeing dozens of swans when she looked out her window across the street from the south end of Lincoln Lake. She won’t be able to see nearly as many swans after the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) Wildlife Services Division killed 53 of the 55 mute swans that made the lake their home.
