STANTON — A crop-dusting helicopter accidently flew into some power lines Wednesday morning, causing a power outage in the Stanton area.
According to Montcalm County Undersheriff Mark Bellinger, a caller on North Peoples Road reported the accident at 10:07 a.m.
“A helicopter piloted by a lone individual was crop dusting a field when he struck some power lines,” Bellinger said. “He landed the helicopter at the scene without incident. It did cause a power outage.”
The Day Township Fire Department responded to the scene. The helicopter had be towed away for repair.
Montcalm County Sheriff’s deputies are working with the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) to investigate the accident. Alcohol and drugs are not believed to be factors.
“It was a scary incident,” Bellinger said. “The pilot was shaken up, but he was not injured. Thankfully it didn’t have a worse outcome.”
