BELDING — The Belding Redskins football schedule will feature four new teams in 2012.

The Redskins remain members of the O-K Blue Conference after the league realigned its divisions, even adding the new O-K Bronze.

Gone from the O-K Blue from 2011 are GR West Catholic (10-3 in 2011), Cedar Springs (5-4) and Forest Hills Northern (5-4). All three of those teams are now in the O-K Bronze.

New additions to the league include GR Creston (0-9), Allendale (3-6) and Wyoming. Wyoming (Wolves) is a new school that combined Wyoming Rogers and Wyoming Park High Schools at the end of last school year.

Returning from the O-K Blue are Coopersville (4-5), Comstock Park (10-3) and Sparta (8-3).

The Redskins (3-6 last year) will open the season with two non conference opponents with Greenville and Lakewood.

Belding and Greenville have been playing for more than 100 years. The Redskins fell a year ago to the Yellow Jackets 46-40 in OT. Belding made an incredible comeback from down three touchdowns before falling short.

The Redskins are 4-1 against Lakewood since 2003. This will be the second consecutive year the two teams have met. They played every year from 2003 to 2006.

After four consecutive conference games the Redskins will host Hopkins in a non league game. Hopkins went 7-4 last year in the O-K Silver.

Belding will play five home games this year on their new field turf. They wrap up the season with a road game at Wyoming.

The combined 2011 record of Belding’s opponents this year is 37-43. Comstock Park, Hopkins and Sparta made the playoffs.
