GREENVILLE — The winners of the first annual Art @ the Green have been announced with four artists receiving cash prizes.
Three artists received a first through third place cash prize and one artist received the Jodie Dewey Jury Award.
The three cash prize winners were voted on by the public, while the Jodie Dewey Jury Award was picked by judge Jon Bouch, who has a background in art.
Artwork remains on display at various locations throughout Greenville until Aug. 31
Amita Modzelewski of Sand Lake won first place for her piece “Classic 2-Door Handel.” Her artwork was displayed at Ed Koehn Ford Lincoln. She received $700 for her first-place prize.
“I went to a local junkyard and I was looking at classic rustic cars,” Modzelewski said. “This piece is based off an ’82 Deluxe Chevy Impala.”
“Shine the light of Michigan,” by Judy Rodgers, a retired Greenville Public Schools teacher assistant, received the second place prize. Her artwork was displayed at Blake Hollenbeck Auto Sales. She received $400 for her second-place prize.
As part of her art piece, Rodgers included a map of Michigan with lights that represent each lighthouse.
“I wanted to represent Michigan’s lighthouses,” she said.
Alexandra Johnson of Sidney won third place for her piece “Daddy Ate the Cake, Mom.” Her artwork was displayed at L’image Hair Salon. She received $200 for her third-place prize.
Johnson said she received inspiration from a friend’s child after volunteering with them.
“I just love kids,” she said, noting she really wanted to focus on the child’s eyes and try to get them as real as possible.
Jodie Dewey Jury Award
“Peacock” an oil painting by Claudia Nielsen of Greenville, received the Jodie Dewey Jury Award for Art @ the Green. Her artwork was displayed at West 57 Design and Floral. Nielson received $500 for her award.
