WASHINGTON, D.C. — Michigan Sens. Carl Levin and Debbie Stabenow announced federal funding Thursday that will help the Belding Fire Department improve its staffing capabilities.

“This critical federal assistance will help ensure that the people of Belding continue to receive the fire protection they need and deserve,” said Levin, a Democrat.

“Our firefighters provide critical, courageous service to communities across Michigan,” added Stabenow, a Democrat.  “This grant provides the resources they need to perform their duties safely and protect the public.”

The $100,112 grant comes from the Federal Emergency Management Agency’s Staffing for Adequate Fire & Emergency Response, or SAFER, program.

The program helps local communities maintain adequate protection from fire and fire-related hazards.
