Saugatuck 31, Montabella 20: The Mustangs fell to the Indians in the season-opener Friday. Quarterback Brady Burggren was 13-for-21 for 181 yards, two touchdowns and two interceptions and ran six times for 45 yards. Derek Martin had six carries for 75 yards, with one of those being a 65-yard touchdown run. Landan Burns caught one of two touchdown passes and led the defense with 15 tackles and a fumble recovery. Zack Taubitz caught the other touchdown and had 11 tackles on defense. Record: 0-1. Next game: at Onekama Thursday.

Saginaw Michigan Lutheran Seminary 41, Carson City-Crystal 6: The Eagles could only manage a Garner Cusack one-yard run in the second quarter in the loss to the Cardinals Friday night. Logan Forist led the Eagles with 12 carries for 53 yards. Stephen Dietrich burned CC-Crystal with 12 carries for 153 yards and two scores, with 115 yards coming on both touchdown runs. Record: 0-1. Next game: at Traverse City Christian Thursday.

Chippewa Hills 47, Central Montcalm 32: Quarterback Keegan James accounted for four touchdowns in the loss to the Warriors Friday night. James was 12-for-28 for 212 yards and two touchdowns passing and added 29 carries for 101 yards and two touchdowns on the ground. Lucas Emmons had both the touchdown receptions for the Green Hornets and added a safety on defense. Jesse Judge had six receptions for 100 yards and added 12 tackles defensively. Record: 0-1. Next game: at home against White Cloud.

Vestaburg 26, Breckenridge 0: The Wolverines scored twice in the first quarter and never looked back in their season opening game. Record: 1-0. Next game: at Brethern Thursday.


Greenville 8, Belding 2: The Yellow Jackets started off the rivalry day with a big win over the Redskins Friday afternoon. Mark Hebert had a hat trick and two assists, Randy Hebert added two goals as did Neil Frank. Greenville goalkeeper Kyle Smith made five saves.  Record: Greenville is 1-1. Next games: Greenville is at Lakeview Monday; Belding is at home against Grand Rapids Creston Tuesday.


Belding wins once at Cadillac: The Redskins went 1-4 at the Cadillac Invitational Thursday, beating only Chippewa Hills 25-18, 25-14 in pool play. In the semifinals of the Silver Bracket, Belding lost to Reed City 25-27, 25-20, 15-8. Brooke Linebaugh had 93 assists and six aces, Greta Wilker had 54 digs, Hannah Linebaugh had a team-high 29 kills and Rachel Hunt added four blocks. Record: 3-5-1. Next meet: at The Daily News Invitational today.
