FAIRPLAIN TOWNSHIP – A family lost their dog in an afternoon fire on Monday.

Sheridan Community Fire Department responded to a structure fire at about 3:20 p.m. at 6842 Wendy road located off of Sessions road between Holland and Brown roads.

“We believe a dog perished,” said Assistant Fire Chief Ed Lingeman.

Lloyd and Andrea Flanagan were renting the Liberty mobil home when the fire broke out, causing it to be a total loss.

Lingeman said the owner of the property did have insurance, however, he was not sure if the Flanagan’s carried renter’s insurance.

“We believe the fire started toward the living room,” Lingeman said, but noted the actual cause is unknown at this time.

The homeowners were not injured during the fire.

Sheridan Community Fire Department was assisted by Stanton Community Fire Department and Montcalm County Medical Services.
