SHEPHERD — The St. Louis Spirits are champions of the Gratiot County Baseball League.
The end of season league playoffs took place this past weekend with the semifinals on Saturday and the championship game on Sunday.
In the semifinals, No. 3 seeded St. Louis defeated the No. 2 seeded Coleman Philles in 10 innings by the score 1-0.
Scott Horman earned the win, while Jake Bullard drove in the winning run for the Sprits.
In the second semifinal, No. 1 ranked Sidney Knights cruised to a 7-0 victory over the No. 4 ranked Fulton Sultans.
Tyler Spohn earned the win with a two-hitter in nine innings. Matt Spitzley led the Knights with two doubles, while Zane Johnston added a double and single.
St. Louis went on the earn the league title with a 4-1 win on Sunday over the top seeded Knights.
Jonathan Tibaudo allowed one run in nine innings to pick up the win. Spitzley suffered the loss.
Sidney won the regular season league title this year and won the playoff championship in 2011.
The Gratiot County Baseball League will host its annual Labor Day Hardball Tournament beginning Friday at Lumberjack Park in Riverdale. The championship game will take place on Monday.
