Belding 3, Saranac 0: The Redskins swept the “other” Redskins in an Ionia County battle Tuesday night. 25-10, 25-13, 25-16. Hannah Linebaugh had seven kills to lead Belding, Stefanie Harig added six kills and 13 digs, Brooke Linebaugh notched three aces and 17 assists and Rachel Hunt had 12 digs, three aces, five kills and the only block of the match. Record: 5-5-3. Next match: at Coopersville Sept. 6.

CC-Crystal 3, Vestaburg 1: The Eagles got their first-ever Mid-State Activities Conference win Tuesday, knocking off the Wolverines 26-24, 15-25, 25-14, 25-14. Tori Christensen had 11 kills and Emily Ward 10 for the Eagles. Jaylin Fisher had 23 assists and seven digs, while Maryia Schafer had four aces. For Vestaburg, Emily Palmer led with nine aces and 12 assists, Jannelle Rons had six blocks and Nikki Drumm made 10 kills. Next match: CC-Crystal is at the Portland Invitational Sept. 8, Vestaburg is at the Montabella Mustang Invitational Sept. 8.

Morley Stanwood 3, Lakeview 0: The defending Class C state champions swept the Wildcats on Tuesday night 25-16, 25-10, 25-19. Andrea Henry led the Wildcats with eight digs and six kills. Estelle Molitor had seven assists, while Chelsea Lint had seven digs. Next match: at Holton on Sept. 5.

Coleman 3, Montabella 0: The Mustangs lost their Mid-State Activities Conference opener Tuesday, falling to the Comets 25-20, 25-21, 25-21 in Blanchard. Allie Ball led Montabella with eight aces and Kayla Lacroix added four assists. Quote: “The girls played much better tonight then they did this past weekend. They fought back but just couldn’t keep it up. We are working hard.” – Montabella coach Jordann Jankowsky. Records: 0-5 and 0-1. Next match: at home against Merrill Sept. 6.


Belding 3, GR Creston 2: The Redskins won their first game of the season Tuesday, knocking off the Polar Bears in an O-K Blue Conference matchup. Belding got goals from Chris Ornelas, Dylan Meyers and Jacob Bozung in the first half, then goalkeeper Sergio Bautisa held off Creston’s second-half rally. He made 14 saves in the game. Records: 1-3 and 1-1. Next game: at home against Comstock Park Sept. 4.


Belding fifth at jamboree: The Redskins shot a team score of 227 at Scott Lake Country Club in Comstock Park Tuesday, which was fifth. Grand Rapids Northpointe Christian was the top score with a 155. Making up Belding’s score was Tayler Reeves with a 54, Jordan Conroe with a 55, Holly Byrne with a 57 and Kalina Bannister with a 61. Next match: at O-K Blue jamboree at Wyoming Park Sept. 6.
