CARSON CITY — Mark your calendars — on Sept. 14, Carson City-Crystal Area Schools and the varsity football team will host Vestaburg in CC-C’s first ever Salute Our Soldiers game.

Salute Our Soldiers was created to pay tribute to past and present soldiers and raise money for Montcalm County Veterans Trust Fund. This fund is set up to help veterans in Montcalm County in need of handicap ramps, wheelchair accessibility renovations, utility bill assistance, and other living necessities that they might need.

“We are extending an invitation to all veterans to come out and enjoy this event that is dedicated to them,” said Julie Anderson of AmeriCorps Vista at Carson City-Crystal Area Schools. “We just want veterans to come enjoy themselves. This game is our way of saying thanks.”

CC-C and Vestaburg are selling Salute Our Soldiers T-shirts and all proceeds from sales will be donated to the veterans fund. There will be a bake sale this Friday during the home CC-C varsity football game to help raise money for the trust fund as well.

Salute Our Soldiers T-shirts are currently being sold through Carson City-Crystal Area Schools. All proceeds will go to the Montcalm County Veterans Trust Fund. Call varsity football head coach Jason Gray at (989) 584-3175 for more information. — Courtesy photo

On Sept. 14, starting at 3 p.m., there will be a “Fun Alley” set up where the community can enjoy fun activities such as a velcro wall, putt-putt golf, dunk tank, basketball, wheel of fortune, a pop walk and a hot dog wagon. All proceeds generated from these activities will go to the veterans fund.

For this special event, the CC-C High School Band will be performing a pre-game and halftime patriotic show all in honor of the different branches of the military. The different branches of the military will be setting up stations with information and the Air Force will be bringing a Replica F16 Jet, speed throw inflatable and a vehicle with a Play Station 3 game system in it.

On Sept. 15, there will be 5K run. Registration will be at 7:30 a.m. with a start time of 8 a.m. The cost of the run is $20 and participants will receive a T-shirt, water bottle and a medal or ribbon. All children 11 and younger can run free and will use the field house track.

Carson City-Crystal Area Schools officials would like to extend an invitation to all veterans to come and enjoy the activities dedicated to saying “thank you.”

For any questions or information about any of the activities or game, call Jason Gray or Paula Tabor at the high school at (989) 584-3175.
