FENWICK — No one was injured in a structure fire that completely destroyed a home at 9516 S. Brown Road in Fenwick on Sunday night.
According to Sheridan Community Fire Department Assistant Fire Chief Ed Lingeman, the owners of the home were away when the fire started shortly before 8 p.m. When firefighters arrived at the scene the fire was already fully involved.
“The homeowners had been there all day and had left just a little earlier to go out of town,” Lingeman said. “The neighbors noticed the fire and called it in, but it was a complete loss.”
Lingeman said because the damage was so extensive, it will be hard to determine the cause of the fire.
“We’re not even sure at this point where it started,” he said, adding that there didn’t seem to be anything suspicious about the fire.
A car sitting near the house also was destroyed from the heat. Firefighters were able to save a nearby unattached garage. Firefighters worked just under two hours to bring the fire under control.
The home is insured. According to Montcalm County property tax records, the property is owned by Michael Hopkins and Julia Ferrara.
Sheridan firefighters were assisted at the scene by firefighters from Stanton Community Fire Department, Crystal Township Fire Department, Greenville Department of Public Safety, Ronald Township Fire Department and Montcalm County Emergency Medical Services.
