Vestaburg 12, Baldwin 6 (OT): The Wolverines and Panthers were scoreless through the first three quarters Friday until Keegan Ryckman scored on a 1-yard run. Baldwin’s Anton Ware scored to tie the game, then Kyle Johnson converted a fumble recovery in overtime with a 2-yard run of his own. Christian Benevidez led Vestaburg with 11 carries for 122 yards and Ryckman finished with 15 rushes for 110 yards. Record: 3-0. Next game: at Carson City-Crystal next Friday.

Montabella 30 Manistee Catholic Central 6: The Mustangs picked up their second win in a row Friday despite trailing 6-0 at halftime and being tied 6-6 after three quarters. Zach Taubitz led Montabella with 13 carries for 83 yards and two touchdowns, Logan Burns added 19 carries for 64 yards and a score and Joey Durham ran seven times for 59 yards. Quarterback Brady Burggren was 3-of-8 in the air for 32 yards. Burns led the defense with 14 tackles and Durham added 11 more. Record: 2-1. Next game: at Coleman next Friday.

Newaygo 9, Lakeview 8: The Wildcats lost a heartbreaker Friday, scoring their only touchdown with 10:35 left in the first quarter and getting shut out the rest of the way. Garrett Cavendish ran 71 yards for the score, then converted the 2-point conversion. The Lions scored with nine minutes left in the second quarter, then got the game-winner on a 25-yard field goal from Connor Bradley in the third quarter. Cavendish led Lakeview with 90 yards on 12 carries, and Gus Ward added 5 rushes for 40 yards. Record: 2-1. Next game: at home against Chippewa Hills next Friday.

Coopersville 41, Belding 12: The Redskins managed only two touchdowns fro Neil McCully in losing to the Broncos in the O-K Blue season opener Friday night. The first was from 41 yards away in the first quarter to tie the game at six, then ran 61 yards for the other score with 10:42 left in the game. Between McCully’s runs Coopersville scored five touchdowns. Record: 1-2. Next game: at home against Grand Rapids Creston next Friday.

Big Rapids 27, Central Montcalm 18: The Green Hornets lost their second CSAA game Friday, falling to the Cardinals despite a big game from quarterback Keegan James. James rushed 31 times for 197 yards and was 4-of-10 passing for 87 yards and a touchdown. Austin Edwards and Lucas Emmons also had scores for Central in the loss. Emmons led defensively with eight tackles and Jesse Judge added five more. Record: 1-2. Next game: at home agianst Morley Stanwood next Friday.

 

Golf

Greenville fifth at Ann Arbor: The Yellow Jackets were not far from the top two teams at the Ann Arbor Pioneer Invitational Thursday, shooting a team score of 381. That was just seven strokes behind second-place Saline’s 374. Brighton won with a 337 team score. For Greenville Britta Bernth shot an 82, Jessica Bonner carded an 88, Lauryn Day added a 104 and Amanda Kerschen shot 107. Next meet: at home Monday for an O-K Bronze Conference jamboree.
