Volleyball

Belding 1-1-1 at Portland: The Redskins didn’t make it out of pool play at the Portland Invitaitonal Saturday after going 1-1-1 in the pool. They lost to Jackson Lumen Christi 25-12, 25-15, then beat Bath 25-14, 25-23, followed by a split with Middleville Thornapple Kellogg. Belding won the first 25-21 but the Trojans won the second 25-22. The Redskins were led by Stefanie Harig with 42 digs and 17 kills, Brooke Linebaugh with 34 assists and four aces and Rachel Hunt with five blocks. Record: 6-7-4. Next match: at home against Grand Rapids Creston Tuesday.

CC-Crystal winless at Portland: The Eagles also didn’t make it out of pool play at the Portland Invitational Saturday. They lost game one against Ionia 25-21 but won the second 25-22, won the first game against Stockbridge 25-11 but lost the second 25-18 and lost both games against the host Raiders 26-24, 25-22. Emily Ward led CC-Crystal with nine kills and five blocks, Tomberlee Smith added 23 digs, Jaylin Fisher had 35 assists and Mariya Schafer had four aces. Record: 7-3-8. Next match: at Ashley Tuesday.

Central 2-2-1 at Montabella: The Green Hornets were 1-1-1 in pool play at the Mustang Invitational Saturday. Central opened with a 25-17 loss to Farwell in the first game but beat them 25-23 to salvage a split. Then the Hornets beat the host Mustangs 25-12, 25-16 before losing to Beal City 25-14, 25-13. Central still made it out of pool play, and beat Lakeview 25-19, 25-23 in the quarterfinals. But they ran into the Aggies again and lost 25-9, 25-20. Michaela Crooks led in aces with eight and blocks with five,  Haylee Misner led in digs with 31 and Savannah Case had a team-high 13 kills. Next match: at home against Big Rapids Wednesday.

Lakeview 2-2 at Montabella: The Wildcats got out of pool play with two wins, beating Vestaburg 25-20, 25-20, and Coleman 25-7, 25-10, but losing to Pewamo-Westphalia 25-14, 25-18. After pool play Lakeview lost to Central. Erin Vanderzand led the Wildcats with 17 kills, Sheena Norton had 11 digs, Estelle Molitor dished out 38 assists and Lauren Jaquays made three blocks. Record: 8-8. Next match: at home against Newaygo Wednesday.

Soccer

Lakeview 2-1 at Crossroads tourney: The Wildcats started out the Big Rapids Crossroads Charter Academy tournament with a 4-1 loss to the host Cougars, but beat Walkerville 4-1 and Manistee 3-0 to finish 2-1 – their second and third wins of the season. Tim Reed led Lakeview with five goals, while Caleb Ruvalcaba added two and Evan Saxton had a single tally. Goalkeeper Lucas Sweet made 23 saves on the day. Record: 3-6. Next game: at Newaygo Tuesday.
