STANTON — As the new 2012-2013 school year starts, the Montcalm Area Intermediate School District (MAISD) Board of Education touched base on the beginning of the school year.

During Wednesday’s meeting, staff updated each other on how the first few days have gone and how they are preparing for the upcoming year.

“We are just getting back into the swing of things,” said MAISD Superintendent Dr. Scott Koenigsknecht. “Opening day went very well from top to bottom.”

When looking forward into the new school year — as always — students are the main focus for goals.

Academically, the MAISD looks to focus on the student’s core curriculum and the Hair on Fire program through the district.

The district will also be coming together for a bullying campaign to help influence students not to bully.

“It’s all about student achievement,” said Associate Superintendent for Curriculum & Instruction Michelle Goodwin.

During the meeting, the board approved a hire and a recall for the 2012-2013 school year.

Stephen Wilczewski was approved as the new school psychologist, as Keisha Thomas was recalled to the special education early childhood teaching position.

The MAISD Board of Education entered into executive session to discuss negotiations.

The next regular meeting will be at 8:30 a.m. Oct. 10 at the MAISD administration building in Stanton.
