Belding 26, Creston 6: The game was 6-6 at halftime but the Redskins scored three times in the second half to get their first O-K Blue Conference win and hand the Polar Bears their 28th consecutive loss, which dates back to Sept. 11, 2009. Brendan Zuver ran 12 times for 104 yards and a touchdown, Neil McCully added 16 carries for 116 yards and a score and quarterback Kole Hart was 4-of-14 for 71 yards and a throwing score. McCully led the Belding defense with eight tackles and an interception. Record: 2-2 and 1-0. Next game: At home against Comstock Park next Friday.

Coleman 20, Montabella 19: The Mustangs couldn’t hold on to a 19-8 lead halfway through the fourth quarter and lost the MSAC-South opener to the Comets Friday night. Logan Burns had 19 rushes for 143 yards and all three of Montabella’s touchdowns. Quarterback Brady Burggren was 5-of-9 passing for 51 yards, with two of those receptions going to Landan Burns for 42 yards. Derek Martin led with eight tackles. Record: 2-2 and 0-1. Next game: At Mount Pleasant Sacred Heart next Friday.

Morley Stanwood 16, Central Montcalm 14: The Green Hornets scored a pair of touchdowns in the fourth quarter from Lucas Emmons but were unable to get one last score to top the Mohawks Friday night. Emmons finished with nine carries for 149 yards and two touchdowns. Keegan James ran 15 times for 87 yards and connected five times out of 16 for 27 yards. Emmons led in tackles with seven and Austin Edwards had six tackles and an interception. Record: 1-3. Next game: At Holton next Friday.

Chippewa Hills 40, Lakeview 20: The Wildcats managed 208 yards rushing but quarterback Shawn Lindsay connected on just one pass for six yards and threw three interceptions. Jared Taylor led the Wildcats offense with 16 carries for 126 yards and touchdown runs of 10, three and 36 yards. Kody Burgess and Cory Hamlin had six tackles each to lead the defense. Record: 2-2. Next game: At home against Reed City next Friday.


Greenville 6, Sparta 2: The Yellow Jackets got three wins in singles and three wins in doubles to knock off the Spartans Friday. Singles wins came from Peter Januzelli, A.J. Ebels and Marius Elbs. Next match: At Grand Rapids Union Monday.

Cross Country

CC-Crystal 18th, 10th at MSU: The Eagles ran at the Spartan Invitational in East Lansing Friday. The boys finished 18th out of 21 teams in the White Division and the girls were 10th out of 27 teams. CC-Crystal was led in boys by Tyler Craig in eighth (16:54), followed by Kolton Kavanaugh in 39th (18:54), Caleb Geselman in 102nd (19:44), Thomas Vargas in 122nd (20:36) and Eric Campbell in 140th (22:47). The girls got a fifth from Kaitlyn Beyer (20:06), a 20th from Elizabeth McCrackin (21:11), Taylor Ward with a 76th (22:59), Gabrielle Hummel with an 82nd (23:10) and Lindsay McClintic with a 120th (24:18). Next meet: At home for an MSAC jamboree Wednesday.


Central 15th at Kenowa Hills: The Green Hornets finished 15th out of 16 teams at the Kenowa Hills Invitational Friday, combining for a 445. The winning team was Grand Rapids Forest Hills Eastern with a 321. Central was led by a 101 from Samantha Kirk, a 111 from Ava Miller, a 115 from Sophie Villet and a 118 from Tawny Graves. Next match: at Lakeview on Tuesday.
