Greenville 3-1-3 at Zeeland East: The Yellow Jackets went deep into the Zeeland East Invitational Saturday, losing to Wyoming Tri-Unity Christian in the finals 25-17, 25-16. Greenville started with a split of Tri-Unity, winning the first 25-21 but losing the second 25-22. Greenville then beat Zeeland West 25-13, 25-17 to finish first in pool play. In power pool play, the Jackets won the first game against the host Chix 25-20 but lost the second 25-17. They then lost the first game to Grand Rapids Kenowa Hills 25-23 but won the second 25-19 to finish second in the power pool. In bracket play, Greenville beat Holland High 25-12, 16-25, 15-13 before beating the Knights 25-23, 20-25, 15-13. That sent the Jackets to the finals and the loss to Tri-Unity. Rosalyn Wyse led Greenville with 49 kills, Megan O’Brien had 101 assists, Leah Somerfield collected 21 blocks, Kylee Moody had 83 digs and Audrey Wyse had 12 aces on the day. Record: 25-5-3. Next match: at home Thursday against  West Catholic.

Lakeview 1-3-2 at Northwood: The Wildcats went to the Northwood Invitaitonal Saturday and won only one match, beating Hale in the third match of the day. Lakeview opened with a 25-19 loss to Midland Bullock Creek but won the second game 25-10. Then they faced Beaverton and won the first game 25-22 but lost the second by the same score. Hale lost to the Wildcats 25-12, 25-18 but then Lakeview lost three straight matches, falling to Oxford 25-16, 25-20, to Goodrich 25-16, 25-15 and to Sanford Meridian 25-18, 25-19. The Wildcats got 24 kills from Andrea Henry, 78 assists and nine aces from Estelle Molitor, 29 digs from Chelsea Lint and three blocks from Keelie Outman. Record: 11-12-4. Next match: at Reed City Wednesday.

Cross Country

Greenville teams both fifth: The Yellow Jackets went to the Cedar Springs Invitational Saturday and each team placed fifth out of seven teams in the event. The boys scored 104 points while the girls had 103. The host Red Hawks dominated the meet with 16 and 17 points respectively, taking the first four places in each gender. Greenville’s boy scorers were Scott Scripter in 16th place (18:14.7), Kyle Reamer in 18th (18:34.8), Tyler Tester in 25th (19:12.1), Jared Downing in 29th (19:34.8) and Jacob Crittenden in 30th (19:47.8). Getting scores for the girls were Madison Sorsen in 13th (21:43.7), Clarice Callahan in 19th (22:55.0), Ali Loding in 25th (23:25.9), Hannah Crittenden in 33rd (24:53.0) and Rachelle Hinken in 34th (25:06.1). Next meet: at Carson City-Crystal for the Don Baese Invitational Saturday.

Montabella third, second at Delta: The Mustangs went to the two-mile Delta College Invitational Saturday and came away with a third-place finish among Division 4 boys and a second-place finish for the girls behind only Breckenridge. Leading the Montabella boys was Parker Eldred in 33rd (11:15.5), Christian Watson in 39th (11:23.0), Kelton Eldred in 47th (11:31.6), Nick Moulter in 77th (11:58.4) and Austin Garner in 84th (12:06.3). The Mustang girls got a sixth from Taylor Smith (12:16.9), an 11th from Kensington Garvey (12:55.9), a 37th from Alyviah Karcher (13:34.7), a 63rd from Kim Buskirk (14:39.4) and a 100th from Sarah Miller (15:53.4). Next meet: at Carson City-Crystal for the Don Baese Invitational Saturday.
