IONIA — Starting on Monday, visitors to the Ionia County Courthouse can only enter the building through one entrance.
Visitors will be required to enter through the east ground floor entrance of the building.
The Ionia County Board of Commissioners approved instituting a single secured entrance in an effort to establish security measures. Commissioners also adopted policies and procedures to govern this action.
Procedures for the single entrance include the use of a metal detector that those entering the courthouse will be required to walk through.
Anyone who cannot be subjected to the magnetic field due to valid medical reasons will be searched with a handheld scanner.
Anyone who refuses a search will not be allowed access to the courthouse.
All objects brought to the courthouse will also be subject to screening.
Along with the equipment at the new secured entrance, alarms and cameras have been installed throughout the courthouse.
Call Ionia County Sheriff Dwain Dennis at (616) 527-5383 for more information.
