Volleyball

Belding 3, Allendale 1: The Redskins picked up an O-K Blue Conference win Tuesday night, beating the Falcons 12-25, 25-18, 25-21, 25-22. Belding got 31 assists and two aces from Brooke Linebaugh. Two blocks each from Rachel Hunt and Carrie Smith, 29 digs from Hannah Linebaugh and 12 kills from Stefanie Harig. Records: 11-9-5 and 2-2. Next match: at home against Grand Rapids Union today.

Central Montcalm 3, Holton 1: The Green Hornets won a CSAA match Wednesday, downbing the Red Devils 25-12, 16-25, 25-21, 25-22. The kills leader was Paige Switzer with 20 kills, five blocks and seven digs. Michaela Crooks added 23 digs and five aces. Quote: “We came out strong tonight and later had to fight through some adversity. The girls worked well together.” – Central coach Haley Dawe. Records: 8-10-4 and 1-4. Next match: at Newaygo next Wednesday.

Reed City 3, Lakeview 1: The Wildcats fell to CSAA rival Coyotes on Wednesday night. Reed City won 26-24, 13-25, 25-18, 25-18. Andrea Henry led the Wildcats with 11 kills, while Lauren Jaquays added seven kills. Keelie Outman had 20 assists and Henry had 12 points. Next match: at Morley Stanwood Invitational on Saturday.

Cross Country

Belding 15, Wyoming 44 (boys): What was supposed to be an invitational for the Redskins at Lightning Bend Park Wednesday turned into a dual non-conference meet when a couple of teams decided to pull out at the last minute, according to Belding coach John Carlson. The Redskins swept the top 5 places, led by winner Eric Rasch (16:53.9), second-place Trevor Curtis (17:18.0), third-place Justin Belding (17:25.5), fourth-place Sam Syrjala (17:56.8) and fifth-place Mitchell Jenks (18:20.1). Quote: “Eric Rasch set a career best today. He went 5:20 the last mile, one of his strongest finishes.” – Carlson. Next meet: at Carson City-Crystal for the Don Baese Invitational Saturday.

Belding 15, Wyoming 49 (girls): The Redskins girls also swept the top five positions plus one, as the first Wyoming girl was seventh. Two freshmen and two sophomores were in the top five for Belding, led by winner Monica Baylis (19:42.8), second-place Teresa Myles (20:30.7), third place Rachel Warner (20:48.3), fourth-place Joesi Krieger (20:54.9) and fifth-place Jasmine Harrison (22:32.1). Quote: “Our girls really turned it on today. Twelve girls had career bests today. It was the first time that we have ever had four girls break 21 minutes on the same day.” – Belding coach John Carlson. Next meet: at Carson City-Crystal for the Don Baese Invitational Saturday.

Tennis

Greenville 6, GR West Catholic 2: The Yellow Jackets were given a pair of defaults in beating the Falcons Wednesday night, as West Catholic had only two singles players. The other two were winners over Brandon Brom and Peter Januzelli. However the doubles teams swept the Falcons. Next match: at the O-K Bronze Conference tournament Oct. 6.
