CC-Crystal 48, Montabella 6: The Eagles are one win away from returning to the playoffs for the first time since 1999 after a mercy of the Mustangs in an MSAC-South game Friday night. For Montabella, Brady Burggren was 17-of-29 for 204 yards and a touchdown. Landen Burns caught the touchdown pass as part of five receptions for 88 yards. CC-Crystal was led in rushing by Will Beedy with 118 yards on six carries and Robert Failing with 18 carries for 88 yards and a two touchdowns. The leading Mustang rusher was Logan Burns with six carries for 34 yards. Records: CC-Crystal is 5-1 and 3-0, Montabella is 2-4 and 0-2. Lakeview 20, Hesperia 13: The Wildcats fell behind the Panthers 7-0 at halftime, but scored 20 unanswered points for the win, allowing a touchdown on the last play of the game to make the score look close. Garrett Cavendish scored two of Lakeview’s touchdowns and Jared Taylor added one more. Taylor led the rushing attack with 125 yards on 28 carries. Nate Hayward also had 16 carries for 88 yards and led in tackles with six. The Wildcats will need to win their final three games to qualify for the playoffs. Record: 3-3. Newaygo 38, Central Montcalm 16: The Green Hornets were downed by the Lions in the first ever CSAA game between the two teams Friday night. Keagan James tossed a touchdown pass to Jesse Judge in the second quarter for one score and Will Plavan added a 64-yard touchdown run in the fourth quarter. James was the leading rusher for Central, carrying the ball 17 times for 104 yards. Lucas Emmons added 13 carries for 102 yards. Mike Garnett led the defense with 13 tackles and Judge and Drew Nemeth had 11 each. Record: 2-4. Next game: at Lakeview Saturday.
Allendale 47, Belding 36: The Redskins led 20-19 at the half and came within three points late in the fourth quarter on a Brendan Zuver four-yard run, but a late run ended the game Friday. Neil McCully had 21 carries for 105 yards and a touchdown rushing and caught eight passes for 73 yards. Quarterback Kole Hart was 17-of-36 for 142 yards and a touchdown to McCully. Michael Walker led Belding with seven tackles. Record: 2-4 and 1-3. Next game: at home against Hopkins Friday.
Greenville 3rd (JV): The Yellow Jackets finished tied for third in their final match of the season at Gracewil on Thursday at the Kenowa Hills Invitational. South Christian was first with 201. Hastings was second with 211, while Greenville and Spring Lake tied with 216. Caroline Willadsen and Elise Ensing both shot 53s to lead the Yellow Jackets, while Rylee Zayler and Lyndsey Bosanic each shot 56s. Next match: season is over.
