Central Montcalm 3, Newaygo 0: The Green Hornets swept the Lions in the first CSAA game the two teams have ever played, winning 25-16, 25-19, 25-11. Leading Central was Paige Switzer with 10 kills and three blocks, Michaela Crooks with 11 assists and six aces and Brooke Hollenbeck with seven digs. Records: 9-10-3 and 2-4. Next match: at home against Lakeview next Wednesday night.

Cross Country

Montabella boys first, CC-C second: The Mustang boys won the MSAC jamboree at Coleman Wednesday, scoring 33 points to the Eagles’ 48. Leading runners for Montabella were Parker Eldred in third (19:01), Christian Watson in fourth (19:06), Kelton Eldred in fifth (19:09), Nick Moulter in 10th (20:01) and Austin Garner in 11th (20:09). For CC-Crystal, Tyler Craig was the overall winner (18:17), Kolton Kavanaugh was second (18:47), Jeremy Bigford was 13th (20:33), Thomas Vargas was 17th (20:36) and Caleb Geselman was 25th (21:01). Next meets: Montabella goes to the Portage Invitational Saturday, CC-Crystal is at the Greater Lansing Invitational Oct. 13.

CC-C girls first, Montabella second: The Eagle girls won the MSAC jamboree at Coleman Wednesday with 29 points, just ahead of the Mustangs with 46. For CC-Crystal, Kaitlin Beyer won the meet (20:06), Elizabeth McCrackin was fourth (22:23), Taylor Ward was sixth (23:33), Gabrielle Hummel was seventh (23:51) and Lindsay McClintic was 11th (25:35). Montabella was led by Taylor Smith in second (20:26), Kensi Garvey was third (21:23), Alyviah Karcher was ninth (23:55), Kim Buskirk was 12th (25:27) and Sarah Miller was 20th (26:29). Next meets: Montabella goes to the Portage Invitational Saturday, CC-Crystal is at the Greater Lansing Invitational Oct. 13.

Greenville boys 6th: The Yellow Jackets placed sixth in Wednesday’s O-K Bronze Jamboree at Boulder Creek Golf Course hosted by Northview. Nine of 11 Greenville runners set personal records on Wednesday. Scott Scripter finished as the highest Yellow Jacket in 27th with 17:19. Kyle Reamer (29th) ran 17:52, Kenny Wood (30th) 17:54, Chris Jacobson (31st) 18:04 and Tyler Tester (36th) 18:35. Cedar Springs took first with 32 points. Conner Mora of Cedar Springs was first overall with 15:06. Next meet: at O-K Conference Championship on Oct. 13.


Greenville third at jamboree: The Yellow Jacket girls were third amongst teams at the Ernie Popiel Invitaitonal hosted by Grand Rapids Forest Hills Northern Wednesday, shooting a team score of 359. That was behind Muskegon Mona Shores’ 319 and Forest Hills Eastern’s 343. Greenville’s Britta Bernth tied for second overall with a 76, Jessica Bonner carded an 84, Lauryn Day had a 91 and Annie Hilt shot a 98. Next match: at the Kalamazoo Hackett Invitaitional for a make-up tournament Saturday.
