SIDNEY — The Montcalm Community College (MCC) Board of Trustees look at the future during a retreat meeting Monday.
The board discussed the future of MCC while looking at where the college has been in the past.
To help keep things on track, one of the items trustees looked at was goals set for President Robert Ferrentino.
“It’s going to be a big year,” said Trustee Patricia Hinrichs.
Ferrentino came prepared with the goals he thought were important and high on the list. One of the first goals he mentioned was looking at and updating MCC’s strategic plan.

“This is very important,” Ferrentino told board members.
Other goals included keeping MCC financially stable, working to have successful contract negotiations, communicating to get the Greenville campus expansion ready for students, enrollment and more.
“We have to put money where our mouth is and get moving,” said Ferrentino of the enrollment goal.
Also during Monday’s meeting, the board looked at a self-review to discuss how they are doing as a whole.
The evaluation included three areas — prepared to participate responsibly, committed to responsible stewardship and relationship with external constituencies — and gave the opportunity for the board to mark a rating on a rating scale.
“When I look at it,” said Treasurer Roger Thelen, “I see a very efficient board.”
In the future, the board plans to add a comment section along with possible number ratings so people can more accurately show their opinion.
Other agenda items included a board expense review, college memberships review, a five-year forecast and a strategic plan/performance report.
The next MCC Board of Trustees meeting will be 6:30 p.m. Nov. 13 at the Trebian Conference Room in the Donald C. Burns Administration/Library Building.
