Volleyball

Belding 3, Sparta 1: The Redskins picked up an O-K Blue Conference win Tuesday, knocking off the Spartans 29-27, 25-21, 24-26, 25-17. Rachel Hunt led Belding with 22 digs and 18 kills, Stefanie harig added 22 digs and 12 kills and Brooke Linebaugh dished out 37 assists and led with five aces. Sammi Willetts had 14 kills to pace Sparta, and Alyssa Hill had 27 assists and three aces. Records: 13-10-5 and 3-2. Next match: at Wyoming High next Tuesday.

Cross Country

Belding boys first, Central fifth: The Belding Redskin boys scored 33 points at the Saranac Color Run Thursday, taking the meet overall. Second was the host Saranac Redskins with 48. The Green Hornets came in fifth with 164 points. Belding got a third from Justin Belding (17:02.0), a fourth from Eric Rasch (17:07.8), a fifth from Trever Curtis (17:12.0), a 10th from Sam Syrjala (17:37.4) and an 11th from Mitchell Jenks (17:47.6). Central’s scorers were Tyler Sleet in sixth (17:13.1), Mason Barnwell in 38th (19:52.2), Jeremy Palinkas in 44th (20:11.4), Aaron Daggett in 52nd (20:41.2) and Joseph Baldwin in 55th (20:58.8). Next meets: Belding is at the O-K Blue Conference meet at Allendale next Tuesday, Central is at the Montabella Invitational Friday.

Belding girls first, Central eighth: The Belding Redskin girls took the Saranac Color run with 44 points, beating Comstock Park by a point and the host Saranac Redskins by 24. The Green Hornets took eighth with 233 points. For Belding, Teresa Myles was second (20:20.4), Rachael Warner was seventh (20:59.5), Joesi Krieger took eighth (21:08.1), Mariah Carlson was 10th (21:09.7) ad Jasmine Harrison was 15th (22:00.2). Central’s top runners were Scylar Blaisdell in 43rd (24:27.0), Bethany Wheeler in 59th (25:57.0), Sophie Johnson in 60th (25:58.6), Kaila Kosten in 61st (26:00.9) and Hannah Christensen in 83rd (29:32.5). Next meets: Belding is at the O-K Blue Conference meet at Allendale next Tuesday, Central is at the Montabella Invitational Friday.

Tennis

Greenville 5, Kenowa Hills 3: The Yellow Jackets were victorious in nonlegue play on Tuesday over the Knights. Singles winners were Brandon Brom, Marius Elbs and Peter Januzelli. Doubles winners were Tre Nelson/Austin McNeal and Matt LeBlanc/Bryan Edwards. Next match: at regionals Thursday.
