HOWARD CITY – Since January, police departments serving the western portion of Montcalm County have taken more than 50 complaints involving the theft of televisions, Ipads, X boxes, Playstations, quads, motorcycles, bicycles and a safe, according to the Michigan State Police Lakeview Post.
These complaints varied from larcenies in buildings to home invasions. They occurred at all times of the day and night, several occurring while the occupants of the home were present. In several of the incidents the suspects were confronted by the homeowners at the time of the incident.
Area departments, including the Howard City Police Department, the Montcalm County Sheriff’s Department, and the Michigan State Police began working to solve these complaints though a cooperative effort among the departments. Suspects were developed and surveillance was conducted on these suspects.
Two suspects from the Howard City area were arrested as a result of the surveillance. They are believed to be responsible for the majority of break-ins in the western Montcalm County and eastern Newaygo County areas. Their names are pending arraignment of forthcoming charges.
As a result of the investigation, several quads, a motorcycle, a go cart, a safe, several televisions, gaming stations, other electronics and a bicycle have been recovered to date. The owners have been identified in the majority of these recovered items.
