Greenville finishes in 10th place at state finals

ALLENDALE — The Greenville Yellow Jackets girls golf team wrapped up its season on Saturday at the second day of the Division 2 state golf finals at The Meadows at Grand Valley State University.

Greenville improved by one stroke on day two, but finished 10th overall in the 15 team field. The Yellow Jackets shot 382 on Friday and 381 on Saturday for a total of 763.

Muskegon Mona Shores won its fourth straight state title with a score of 666. Battle Creek Lakeview was second with 707 and Okemos third with 711.

Greenville senior Britta Bernth finished 10th overall individually with a two-day score of 168 (87, 81).

Elle Nichols of Okemos won the individual state title. She defeated Mona Shores’ Hailey Hrynewich and East Lansing’s Kristyn Crippen on the first hole of a playoff. All there tied in regulation with 158s.

On Saturday, Jessica Bohner shot 92 (185 total) for the Yellow Jackets. Lauryn Day shot 98 (198), Karli Didion 117 (219) and Amanda Kerschen 110 (224).

The Yellow Jackets placed 3rd last year in Division 2.
