HINTON TOWNSHIP — A home about four miles north of Lakeview was destroyed in a fire Saturday afternoon after firefighters battled the blaze for nearly five hours.

The Lakeview District Fire Department was dispatched at 4:45 p.m. to 3271 100th Ave. in response to a structure fire.

Fire Chief Patrick Q. Carr said assistance was provided by Morton Township and Morley Area fire departments, as well as Mecosta County Emergency Medical Services.

“We were on scene about a good four hours with some cleanup involved afterward,” Carr said. “Most of the home is still standing, but part of the roof caved in. It was a complete loss.”

The home belongs to Douglas and Robin Sutherland of Lakeview, who were not home at the time of the fire.

Carr said the cause of the fire is unknown and is still under investigation and added that no one was injured while battling the fire.

Approximately 12,000 gallons of water was used to extinguish the fire.
