Howard City bicyclist injured after veering into traffic

REYNOLDS TOWNSHIP — A man was seriously injured Sunday after being struck while riding his bicycle near Howard City.

Howard City police officers responded to the incident at 3:44 p.m. at M-46 and Maple Hill Road.

Allen Russell, 48, of Howard City, was riding his bicycle westbound on M-46 near Maple Hill Road when he suddenly veered left into traffic after losing control of the bicycle, according to witnesses.

Russell was struck by a westbound Chevy Blazer driven by a 22-year-old man from Jackson.

Russell was transported by Montcalm County Emergency Medical Services to a hospital. M-46 was shut down for about 45 minutes until the scene was cleared and investigation was completed.

The Howard City Police Department was assisted by the Howard City Fire Department and the Montcalm County Sheriff’s Department. AeroMed was also placed on standby.
