After serving the Ionia County Sheriff’s Office for more than 26 years, Republican Dale Miller will now lead the department as the newly elected sheriff.
Miller, 56, of Lake Odessa, defeated Democratic challenger Gordy Douglas, 54, of Orleans.
“I really look forward to the privilege of serving the people of Ionia County,” Miller said. “I will do my best to provide them the type of law enforcement services that they expect.”
Miller, who participated in his first-ever election this year, said he wasn’t surprised by the outcome, but was relieved to hear that he had won.
“This campaign has been a real experience to remember,” Miller said. “I want to commend my opponent for running a clean campaign.”
Miller said most importantly he wanted to thank his family and his wife, Nancy, for staying by his side.
“I want to thank all of my supporters for the tireless effort they put forth,” he said. “The sacrifices of my family and campaign committee members, we tried to reach out to the citizens of the county and hopefully we did that.”
Douglas, who is the senior Animal Control officer for Ionia County, was not available for comment.
