PIERSON TOWNSHIP – An arrest has been made in the early Saturday morning murder of a Pierson Township woman.

According to the Montcalm County Sheriff’s Office, a 29-year-old man from Grand Rapids and Ionia was arrested and is expected to be arraigned and charged Monday with open murder.

The man is described as being an acquaintance of the murder victim, Julie Danielson, 31, of Pierson Township.

Sheriff’s officials responded to Danielson’s home in the 4000 block of Whitefish Woods Drive in Pierson Township near Newaygo County after a 911 call reported an assault and an unresponsive person at 3:58 a.m. Saturday. Danielson was found dead in the home.

Undersheriff Mark Bellinger declined to release details about the cause of death or the motive for murder at this time. He did say Danielson’s two young sons were not present when the murder occurred.

“The investigation led us to several counties tracking persons of interest and gathering evidence,” Bellinger said. “We’re still running down leads and continuing the investigation. It’s been non-stop.”

The murder suspect is expected to be arraigned and charged Monday in 64B District Court in Stanton.
