GOWEN — Four people were injured in a two-car head-on collision Wednesday morning on Sidney Road just west of Johnson Road.
Officials were dispatched at 7:11 a.m. to the intersection of Sidney and Johnson roads in response to the two-car accident.
According to Trooper John Looney of the Michigan State Police Lakeview Post, a silver Chevrolet Cobalt was traveling westbound on Sidney Road when it collided head-on with a brown Jeep Compass SUV traveling eastbound, also on Sidney Road.
The Compass and the passenger of the Cobalt were transported by a West Michigan Air Care helicopter to Spectrum Butterworth Hospital in Grand Rapids while the other two individuals were transported by ambulance to Spectrum Health United Hospital in Greenville, one of whom was later transported to Spectrum Butterworth Hospital.
Darlene Wirtz, 79, of Greenville, was still in critical condition as of Thursday afternoon. She was in the Compass along with Annette Rendall, 55, of Greenville, who is in stable condition.
Logan Johnson, 22, of Crystal, was the driver of the Cobalt. He is in stable condition, as is his passenger, Amanda Marsh, 23, of Crystal.
According to Looney, alcohol was not a factor and weather and road conditions were also not a factor in the accident.
All four passengers were wearing seatbelts.
The accident is still under investigation.
The Montcalm County Sheriff’s Office, Greenville Department of Public Safety, Montcalm Township Fire Department and Montcalm County EMS assisted on scene.
