Longtime Ionia County Treasurer Nancy Hickey dies

IONIA — The longtime and current Ionia County treasurer died last Saturday after battling cancer.

Nancy Hickey of Lake Odessa was 63 years old.

Hickey originally worked as a clerk at Fisher Body. She went on to work several government jobs, including clerk of Odessa Township from 1974 to 1990, assessor for Odessa Township and treasurer of Ionia County from 1996 to this year. She worked for equalization offices in both Eaton County and Ionia County, as well as the Lake Odessa Chamber of Commerce, G&W Parts & Service and Lakeside Cemetery.

She served as the secretary/treasurer of the Lake Odessa Fair for many years. She co-founded the Lakewood High School Project Graduation event. She was a proud charter member of the Lakewood Area Choral Society and loved singing in the concerts and traveling with the group. She played organ and piano for St. Edward Catholic Church since 1974. She gave of her time to many organizations, including Lake Odessa Friends of the Library, Habitat for Humanity, Swifty’s Place, and Focus on the Family.

Hickey is survived by her husband of 42 years, Michael, her children, Chad Hickey and Ann Thompson, her parents, Ron and Marge Erickson, plus many grandchildren, siblings, family members and friends.

A funeral Mass is scheduled for 11 a.m. Saturday at St. Edward Catholic Church.

Visitation takes place from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. today at St. Edward Family Center in Lake Odessa.
