BELDING — As part of this year’s holiday festivities in and around the city, the Belding Area Chamber of Commerce hosted the annual Home for the Holidays event at the Covered Village Mall on Saturday.

Several hundred people enjoyed the day with Santa, taking part in many activities including cookie and ornament decorating, face painting, music and refreshments.

There were also a number of decorated trees to admire at the mall, which are part of a community-wide food drive and contest. Businesses and groups have decorated trees and displayed them at their places of business or at the mall and community members are encouraged to visit those locations and vote for their favorite tree by leaving non-perishable food items under the trees. The tree with the most votes will be awarded the prize of “Best Tree” and will earn yearlong bragging rights. This is the third year for the event and participation among area businesses and organizations is strong.

Trees have been entered by the following business or group:

• Dr. Charles Barker, Jr.

•Natures Needs Landscaping

• Belding Arts Council

• Chemical Bank

• Preferred Federal Credit Union

•Millie’s Family Restaurant

• Metron of Belding

• B.C. Pizza

•Candlestone Inn and Resort

• Girl Scouts

• Firstbank

• Rite Aid

• Independent Bank

Please take some time as you shop and do business around Belding over the next couple weeks and visit these community-minded sponsors and vote for the tree(s) of your choice. All food items will be donated to local food pantries to be distributed to local families in need.

The Belding Area Chamber of Commerce would like to thank the many sponsoring organizations who have supported the Home for the Holiday event over the years and those who have taken part in this festive and fun tree contest.  We would also wish all Belding community members a safe and happy holiday season, and a reminder to shop and do business locally whenever possible.
