Butternut Homeschoolers 57, SE GR Homeschoolers 49: Butternut picked up their fourth win of the season Wednesday night, going on a 15-7 run over the final two minutes of the game to break open a tied game. Josh Snyder led the winners with 16 points and Nathan Crawford added 15. Quote: “We hit some big shots down the stretch which allowed us to win.” – Butternut coach Steve Crouse. Record: 4-0. Next game: at The Border Battle Tournament this weekend.

Coleman 57, Montabella 41: The Mustangs lost their MSAC Conference opener Thursday night, falling to the Comets when the only big scorer they had was Nate Jankowsky with 17 points and nine rebounds. The next highest scorer was Brady Burggren with eight. Records: 0-2 and 0-1. Next game: at home against the Butternut Homeschoolers Tuesday.

Chippewa Hills 51, Central Montcalm 42: The Green Hornets lost their CSAA conference opener to the Warriors Thursday night when they scored only three points in the first quarter. Trevin Nemeth had 11 and Scott Schalow added 10. Jake Tarbel led Chippewa Hills with 17. Records: 0-2 and 0-1. Next game: at home against White Cloud Monday.

Morley Stanwood 62, Lakeview 54: The Wildcats got 26 points from Shawn Lindsey Thursday night but fell to the Mohawks in Thursday’s game. Jon Wandel chipped in 11 for Lakeview, but Travis McQuid gave Morley Stanwood 18 to lead the winners. Records: 1-2 and 0-1. Next game: at home against Holton Monday.

Girls basketball

Belding 59, Ottawa Hills 55: The Redskins battled and pulled out a home win on Thursday night in part to 23 points from McKenzie Breimayer. Katie Wood added 14 points and Monica Baylis 10 points in the win. Belding helped to seal the game by hitting 15-of-16 free throws in the second half. Record: 2-1. Next game: at home Monday against Carson City-Crystal.
