GREENVILLE — A 38-year-old Greenville woman was found dead in her home Sunday afternoon when her ex-husband arrived to pick up their son.
According to Greenville Departmentof Public Safety Director Michael Pousak, police responded to the 600 block of Harrison Street between 1:30 and 2 p.m. for a woman who was unresponsive on the floor.
“When officers and paramedics arrived, she was dead,” Pousak said.
According to Pousak, the woman’s ex-husband was arriving to pick up their 3-year-old son who was at the house at the time of his mother’s passing. When the ex-husband came to the door, the child opened the door and told his father his mother was upstairs. The ex-husband found the body and called the police.
“We are treating this as suspicious because we are not sure of the cause,” Pousak said.
Pousak said there was some blood by the woman’s body, but officers will not know more until the autopsy report comes back Tuesday afternoon.
A search warrant was obtained to search the house and a crime scene was secured around the area while Greenville police, along with Michigan State Police crime lab technicians gathered information.
Pousak said the name of the woman is not being released at this time, as officers are still trying to contact her family.
