A check for $4,100 was recently presented to the Michigan Veterans Trust Fund as a result of the Salute Our Soldiers varsity football game on Sept. 14 between Carson City-Crystal and Vestaburg. Mark your calendars — on Sept. 14, Carson City-Crystal Area Schools and the varsity football team will host Vestaburg in CC-C’s first ever Salute Our Soldiers game. Salute Our Soldiers was created to pay tribute to past and present soldiers and raise money for Montcalm County Veterans Trust Fund. This fund is set up to help veterans in Montcalm County in need of handicap ramps, wheelchair accessibility renovations, utility bill assistance, and other living necessities that they might need.

Hands on Hubbardston event organizers didn’t know what to expect on Saturday, July 7, during their first Hubbapalooza event. “Throughout the day we had around 800 to 1,000 people show up,” said Hands on Hubbardston Vice President Scott Schmitt. “We had around 600 people stay for the evening show.”

Throughout the summer, Gowen resident Brenda Gibson went shopping for batteries, ointments, jerky pouches, books, candy, crackers, eye drops and many other items that she shipped to Florida for America’s deployed soldiers. Gibson is doing this because she is involved with a group of women that helps those serving in the American armed forces. She got involved with the group through a friend she met online. She sought out support from other mothers after her son Nathan enlisted in the U.S. Marine Corps.
