RONALD TOWNSHIP — One man was killed and two injured in a one-vehicle crash that took place at 1:23 a.m. today.
According to Ionia County Sheriff Dwain Dennis, deputies responded to the scene at Jefferson Road north of Nickleplate Road in Ronald Township. Police say a silver Ford F-150 was traveling north on Jefferson Road when the driver lost control and the vehicle left the roadway.
The truck crashed into a culvert and an unoccupied vehicle that was sitting for sale in the front yard of a nearby residence. Evidence at the scene indicates the truck was airborne for a short time before coming to rest on the passenger side of the vehicle.
The truck’s driver, a 26-year-old Greenville man, was able to climb from the truck and call for help. The passengers, 27-year-old Chad Ronald-Flashaar Saladin and 35-year-old Ryan Lee Johnson, both of Greenville, were trapped in the truck.
After emergency crews extracted the passengers it was confirmed that Saladin had sustained fatal injuries in the crash. Johnson was taken via ambulance to Grand Rapids with non-life threatening injuries.
The driver, whose name is not yet being released pending arraignment in 64-A district court, was arrested at the scene on charges relating to the crash.
The crash remains under investigation by the Ionia County Sheriff’s Office. Police believe alcohol and weather were factors in the crash.
Assisting at the scene were the Ionia Department of Public Safety, Michigan State Police, Ionia County Central Dispatch, Ronald County Fire Department, Ruehs Wrecker Service and Reed and Hoppes Wreckers Service.
