Boys basketball

Breckenridge 68, Vestaburg 59: The Wolverines trailed by only one point late in the game, but eight free throws by the Huskies sealed the win Tuesday night. Vestaburg got 23 points and eight rebounds from Mason Darmody and 12 points and 23 rebounds from DeWayne McKinney. Record: 0-3. Next game: at Ovid-Elsie Jan. 4.

Ludington 54, Tri County 43: The Vikings scored only six points in the first quarter and shot just 34 percent from the field in losing a Lakes 8 Conference game to the Orioles Tuesday night. Mitch Goerner had 17 points and Brandon Peterman added 11 for Tri County. Quote: “I thought our guys competed hard, we let them go on an early run and got down by 10 early in the first, but we fought hard to keep the game in reach.” — Tri County coach Chad Gould. Records: 2-3 and 0-1. Next game: at home against Fremont Jan. 4.

Girls basketball

Morley Stanwood 46, Central Montcalm 42: The Green Hornets got down by 15 at halftime against the Mohawks and never recovered to win a CSAA matchup Tuesday night. Savannah Case led Central with 10 points and 15 rebounds and Kaden Everingham added nine points. Quote: “Too many missed shots in the first half put us down by 15. After that, the girls outplayed Morley. We just need to eliminate all the little missed shots early in the game.” — Hornets coach Kevin Everingham. Records: 1-5 and 1-3. Next game: at Holton Jan. 7.

Clare 52, Montabella 32: The Mustangs played with only six players Tuesday night due to injuries and lost to the Pioneers. Sarah Miller scored 13 points to lead four players in scoring. Record: 3-2. Next game: at Lincoln-Alcona Saturday.

Chippewa Hills 52, Lakeview 41: The Wildcats lost a nonconference road game on Tuesday night to the Warriors. Megan Leach scored 14 points to lead the Wildcats. Record: 4-2. Next game: at home against Reed City on Jan. 7.
