GREENVILLE — In the past year, Greenville High School saw many of its student-athletes succeed both on and off the field. On Friday night, those athletes will be recognized for their accomplishments in front of a home basketball crowd.
All teams and individual all-state student-athletes will be honored during halftime of Friday’s varsity girls basketball game between Greenville and Forest Hills Northern. The girls game is expected to begin around 7:30 p.m. The boys game begins at 6 p.m.
Individual all-state athletic honors include Bailey Parmelee (track), Colt Harrington (football), golfers Britta Bernth and Jessica Bohner and wrestlers Alec Ward, Devon Lehman, Luke Gilmore and Jordan Thomas.
Parmelee was all-state in track for two years. She finished eighth in the state in the 3,200-meter run in 2012. She also earned academic all-state honors. Parmelee currently competes for Central Michigan University in both track and cross country.
Harrington, for the recently completed football season, was named to the Detroit Free Press honorable mention all-state team as a defensive lineman. It was the second straight year Harrington received all-state honors.
Thomas won his third consecutive individual wrestling title in March and is currently wrestling for the University of Michigan. Gilmore and Lehman both finished third in Division 2 in their respective weight classes, while Ward placed fifth.Ward continues to wrestle for Greenville this year, while the others have graduated. Thomas and Gilmore earned academic all-state honors, as well.
Rachel Haines was a member of the 2012 USA gymnastics all-star team in Panama and signed a letter of intent to compete for the University of Minnesota. She was an all-around national champion in 2009-2010 and a 2011 national team member and USA all-star team member in Brazil.
Bernth earned Division 2 all-state honors for the second time this past fall, while Bohner was named honorable mention. Both helped lead the Yellow Jackets to a second place finish at regionals and 10th place at the state finals. Bernth will golf next year at Florida Southern University.
In addition to the accomplishments on the course, the girls golf team earned team academic all-state honors with a 3.74 GPA. Lauryn Day earned individual academic all-state honors, as well. Other team members include, Karli Didion, Annie Hilt and Amanda Kerschen.
The 2012 girls basketball team was named academic all-state with a 3.53 GPA. Team members include Katie Dunham, Anna Ralph, Mackenzie Nichols, Taylor Baker, Britta Bernth, Megan O’Brien, Sam O’Herron, Kay Page and Leah Somerfield.
This years Yellow Jackets’ volleyball team earned academic all-state honors and finished the year with a school record 35 wins. Team members include Stacey Fitgerald, Bethany Gantz, Quinn Heyboer, Nikota Howe, Kylee Moody, Megan O’Brien, Sam O’Herron, Leah Somerfield, Rachel Taft, Rosalyn Wyse and Audrey Wyse.
O’Brien, O’Herron, Taft and both Wyse girls all earned individual academic all-state honors, as well.
The 2012 boys basketball team earned academic all-state honors with a 3.26 GPA. They finished the season 19-2 and won the O-K White Conference championship.
Team members include Torrey Davis, Curtis Heppe, Aaron Crebessa, Peter Lindeman, Austin Somerfield, Miguel Nieto, Alex Karatkiewicz, Colton Boehm, Chris Mickey, Alex Playford and Greg Krusniak.
Brad Gilbert earned academic all-state honors this past spring in baseball.
