Mail carrier in critical condition after being struck by tow truck

BELVIDERE TOWNSHIP – A mail carrier was critically injured on his route this afternoon after his car was struck by a tow truck.
According to the Michigan State Police Lakeview Post, the crash happened at the intersection of Derby Road and Fleck Road around noon.
A tow truck, driven by a 21-year-old man, ran the stop sign while northbound on Derby Road. The tow truck struck a car driven by a 44-year-old man. The car was eastbound on Fleck Road.
The driver of the tow truck was not injured.
The driver of the passenger car is in critical condition at this time. He was transported to Grand Rapids for treatment by Aeromed.
Alcohol is not believed to be a factor in the crash.
The tow truck driver was wearing his safety belt. The driver of the car, a mail carrier on his route, was not buckled.

The investigation is ongoing.
Troopers were assisted on scene by Belvidere Township Fire Department, Montcalm County EMergency Medical Services and Aeromed.
