Mail carrier dies after tow truck runs stop sign

BELVIDERE TOWNSHIP — A mail carrier has died from his injuries after his car was struck by a tow truck.

Michigan State Police Lakeview Post officers responded to the crash around noon at the intersection of Derby Road and Fleck Road in Belvidere Township.
A tow truck, driven by a 21-year-old man from Greenville, ran the stop sign while northbound on Derby Road. The tow truck struck an eastbound car on Fleck Road driven by Jimmie Lee Kostal, 44, of Shepherd.
Kostal, a mail carrier on his route, was transported to Grand Rapids by Aeromed for treatment of his critical injuries. He died from his injuries Wednesday.

The driver of the tow truck was not injured. His name has not yet been released due to an ongoing investigation.
Alcohol is not believed to be a factor in the crash. The tow truck driver was wearing his safety belt. Kostal was not buckled.
Troopers were assisted on scene by Belvidere Township Fire Department, Montcalm County EMergency Medical Services and Aeromed.
