HOWARD CITY — The Howard City Police Department recently announced several changes in how firearm purchase permits will be issued, according to Police Chief Steve DeWitt.
Howard City will no longer issue purchase permits for firearms being purchased from a firearms dealer. Buyers must obtain their permit directly from the dealer.
Howard City will continue to issue purchase permits for the purchase of firearms from private parties. Pistol registrations must be brought back to the agency where the permit was issued. Buyers cannot obtain a permit elsewhere and bring the registration back to Howard City.
Pistol sales records for concealed pistol law (CPL) holders will only be accepted from residents of Howard City and Reynolds Township.
Howard City will continue to register firearms for residents only as computer systems have not yet been updated at the state level to allow for anything else after changes were made in state law on Dec. 18, 2012, due to Public Act 377.
