REYNOLDS TOWNSHIP — A Howard City woman is dead and a Sand Lake man is in serious condition following a late-night accident in Reynolds Township.
According to a press release from the Howard City Fire Department, police responded to a head-on accident at 10:29 p.m., Monday, on Federal Highway near W. Almy Road.
Through the preliminary investigation, it was determined a 64-year-old male of Sand Lake was driving a 2009 Honda CRV south on Federal Highway when he crossed the center line into the northbound lane, hitting the 55-year-old female from Howard City, who was driving a 2001 Pontiac Montana.
Both were the only occupants in each vehicle.
The woman was dead at the scene and the male driver was unresponsive.
The Sand Lake man was transported to Butterworth Hospital in Grand Rapids with serious conditions with rib, ankle and possible head injuries.
During the time of the accident, it appears neither driver was wearing a seatbelt and alcohol does not believe to be a factor.
Names are being withheld until notification is made with family members.
The investigation is still ongoing to determine why the male driver crossed the center line.
Howard City Police Department was assisted by the Montcalm County Sheriff’s Department, Montcalm County Emergency Medical Services, Howard City Fire Department and the Michigan State Police Rockford Post.
