ORLEANS — In celebration of the freedom to have choice in choosing a school for a child’s education, students and faculty at Threshold Academy in Orleans celebrated National School Choice Week Thursday.

Guided by their teachers, students from kindergarden through fifth grade held hands, wore yellow scarves, the signature color for the National School Choice organization, and hugged their school in a symbolic gesture.

“I think that our local public schools are really strong, but I think it’s also good for parents to have choice,” Threshold Academy Principal Victoria Simon said. “This is the week that we celebrate that. Threshold is known as a small school with a big heart, we’re like one big family here and we love each other very much and we just wanted to celebrate that today.”

The week-long celebration started on Jan. 25 and ends on Feb. 3.
