Girls basketball
Montabella 49, Farwell 31: The Mustangs got a triple-double from Taylor Smith, as she scored 12 points, grabbed 15 rebounds and dished out 10 assists in a win over the Eagles Tuesday night. Sarah Miller had a team-high 18 points and Krista Daws added 13. Record: 8-5. Next game: at Vestaburg Thursday.
Central Montcalm 61, Morley Stanwood 54: The Green Hornets defeated the defending Class C state champs Tuesday night, getting 17 points from Michaela Crooks and 13 each from Kaden Everingham and Savannah Case. Record: 3-11 (3-9). Next game: at Holton Friday.
Forest Hills Northern 31, Greenville 29: The Yellow Jackets shut out the Huskies 7-0 in the third quarter, but that only tied the game at 22. Forest Hills Northern then went on a 7-0 run of their own to put the game just enough out of reach to stave off a late Greenville rally and hand them their first O-K Bronze loss. Leah Somerfield scored 11 points to lead the Jackets, followed by Megan O’Brien with seven. Quote: “I take full responsibility for this loss. We were not prepared to play.” — Greenville coach Eric Nichols. Record: 12-3 (5-1). Next game: at home against Northview Friday.
GR Creston 46, Belding 33: The Redskins were outplayed in the first half against the Polar Bears on Tuesday night. Creston led 25-11 after the first quarter. Monica Baylis led the Redskins with 10 points. Greta Wilker added seven points, while McKenzie Breimayer added six points. Record: 9-7 (4-4). Next game: at Comstock Park Friday.
Boys basketball
GR Creston 63, Belding 40: The Redskins led 13-10 after the first quarter at home on Tuesday night. After that, it was all Polar Bears as they outscored the Redskins 53-27 the remainder of the game. Kole Hart led the Redskins with 10 points. Trevor Curtis added nine points, while Brendan Sutherland and Telson Jones each scored eight points. Record: 3-11 (1-7). Next game: at Comstock Park Friday.
