Snowmobiler hits plow in Oakfield Township

OAKFIELD TOWNSHIP — Medical personnel responded to an accident in northeastern Kent County after a snowmobiler collided with a snow plow Friday afternoon.According to WZZM 13, the crash happened around 3:30 p.m. at the intersection of Van Hoose Ave. and Simpson Road, which is south of the intersection of M-57 and Montcalm Avenue. Dispatchers with the Kent County Sheriff’s Department told WZZM 13 the snowmobiler was conscious when authorities arrived on the scene. AeroMed had been put on standby as a precaution, but the medical helicopter was called off.

According to emergency dispatch traffic, the snowmobiler, a 52-year-old man suffered leg and rib fractures. He was transported to a local hospital by ambulance.

A man was taken to Spectrum Health Butterworth Hospital in Grand Rapids after crashing his vehicle on M-57. According to Kent County Central Dispatch, authorities were dispatched a little after 4 p.m., Wednesday for a single-vehicle accident on M-57 in between Morgan Mills and Lincoln Lake Roads in Oakfield Township.

A family’s house was saved from a fire on Saturday and a neighbor, who was walking his dog, is getting the credit. “If it wasn’t for him, it would have been a total loss,” said Oakfield Township Fire Chief Don Riker.
