Wrestling Individual districts

Montabella qualifies 12: The Mustangs got 12 wrestlers out of their 14 weight classes into the regional round of the Division 4 individual tournament Saturday at Byron. Winning their weight classes were Tristan Viglianco (125 pounds) and Logan Burns (160). Second-place finishes were taken by Dustin Scott (119), Dalton Kuklewski (130) Zach Taubitz (140), Joey Durham (152) and Jonny Durham (171). In third was Quinn Stradtner (125) and Dan Davidson (285) and in fourth was Mike Hyde (145) and L.D. Lapham (189). Next meet: at home for regionals next Saturday.

CC-Crystal sending 10: The Eagles went to the Division 4 individual district at Byron Saturday and will have 10 continue to regionals. District champions were Dillon Decker (145), Darren Decker (152), Garner Cusack (140) and Dallas O’Green (119). In second was Ken Dittenber (112), taking third places were Lincoln Burnham (160), Dakota O’Green (189), Austin Hopkins (215) and Taylor Barkley (103) and fourth went to Alex Baker (119). Next meet: at Lake Odessa Lakewood for team regionals Wednesday.

Seven from Greenville moving on: The Yellow Jackets went to Escanaba for Division 2 individual districts Saturday and came away with seven placers. Winning their weight classes were Dakota Sherrick (189), Mike Schmidt (112), Alec Ward (130) and Jake Hopkins (145). Second place finishes went to Will Parmelee (125) and Kyle Reamer (140) while a third went to Jordan Dassinger (285) and fourths went to Andrew Bowen (189) and Carter Magirl (215). Next meet: at Mount Pleasant for team regionals Wednesday.

Belding qualifies seven: The Redskins were at the Lakewood district in Division 3 and seven will move on to the regionals next Saturday. The only district champion was Nate Cooley (112), while Jesse Scheidel (125), Devin Bailey (130), Michael Walker (152), Neil McCully (189) and Todd Haller (215). In third was Dakota Foster (140). Next meet: at Lake Odessa Lakewood for team regionals Wednesday.

Central also sending seven: the Green Hornets didn’t have any district champions at Lakewood Saturday but they did have seven placers in second and third places. Seconds went to Cody Veltkamp (112) and Trent Braman (140) and thirds went to Tyler Rydahl (130), Zack MacDonald (135), Jon MacDonald (145), Dakota James (152) and Jesse Judge (189). Next meet: at Lake Odessa Lakewood for team regionals Wednesday.

Three Tri County wrestlers qualify: At Allendale, which coach Cory Renner said was “as tough as I have ever seen,” the Vikings were able to only qualify three wrestlers for regionals: Tommy Gilbert was third at 103, Nick McGhan was fourth at 103) and Will Cook was fourth at 130. Next meet: at Comstock Park for Division 3 team regionals Wednesday.

Boys basketball

Central Montcalm 63, White Cloud 51: The Green Hornets made up a postponed game against the Indians Saturday and ended a six-game losing streak. Lane Ledford led Central with 17 points and Scott Schalow added 10. Records: 2-12 and 2-11. Next game: at Newaygo today.

Greenville 56, West Ottawa 51 (OT): The Yellow Jackets outscored the Panthers 7-2 in overtime on Saturday in a makeup game. Greg Krusniak and Miguel Nieto led Greenville with 15 points each. Nieto knocked down three three-pointers. Curtis Heppe added 14 points and nine assists in the win. Record: 6-9. Next game: at Hastings on Tuesday.
