DAY TOWNSHIP — A 67-year-old McBride man is unharmed after an errant bullet shattered his car window as he was driving through the village of McBride on Sunday evening.

Montcalm County Sheriff’s deputies are investigating the incident that involved Doug Davis, who was driving northbound on Wyman Road near Coral Road.

At 4:32 p.m., Davis called 911 reporting that his vehicle window had been shattered by a bullet. Davis was uninjured.

Investigation shows the bullet entered the passenger side front window and went through the passenger front seat head rest.

The spent bullet was subsequently located inside of the victim’s vehicle.

Investigation by sheriff’s deputies determined that two subjects had been target practicing with handguns inside of a building on the southeast corner of Wyman and Coral roads.

One of the rounds missed the fabricated backstop, went through the west wall of the building and struck Davis’ vehicle as he was driving by. It is believed the round was fired from either a .357 revolver or a 9mm.

Deputies have seized the firearms as well as other evidence connected to this incident.

The investigative report will be forwarded to the Montcalm County Prosecutor’s Office.
